The Saga Concerning the Classification of Cheerleading as a Sport Rages On

Cheer Music & More’s very own Matt Sturgis was interviewed this week regarding a federal judge’s ruling in Connecticut considering competitive cheerleading to be unsportsmanlike. The judge’s ruling was warranted under the premise that the relatively young industry was too disorganized to abide by the Title IX law regarding funding and equal public opportunities for male and female sports. Judge Stefan Underhill’s decision will most likely be appealed inciting uprising from coaches and gymnasts alike, potentially even bridging into an issue of sexism.
